When I first started my author journey, I always thought my path would look like getting an agent, sending out a book on submission to the big New York publishers, and hopefully ending up with my book on shelves in stores everywhere.
After I finished grad school at University of North Carolina Greensboro, that’s what I did. Or–part of what I tried to do.
I got an agent. We submitted the novel I started writing in grad school. And we sent it to New York. I got positive feedback, which is … something, but it’s also nothing. It means starting over from scratch, writing something new, and doing the whole thing again.
Then we started having kids. Five kids and nine years later, I hadn’t written any novels, but I had blogged, learned social media, and discovered indie publishing.
I moved into a new genre: romance. And then drilled down a little further to write romcom and BOOM. Career and life changing. Truly.
After several years of being full-time at this gig, I secured a publishing deal with Thomas Nelson, a publishing house under the Harper Collins umbrella. Some authors I love like Melissa Ferguson, Pepper Basham, Courtney Walsh, and Bethany Turner to name a few. (There are so many more!!!)
There is a long story I’ll save for how what was intended to be a tandem bike book ended up being a sailing book, but HERE WE ARE. I am stoked to work with this publisher, and it’s been fabulous so far having a team to work with!
And now, we’re starting to get to the exciting parts because … WE HAVE A COVER!!!
