I couldn’t go a Christmas year without a new novella. I just couldn’t. So, when Jenny Proctor and I talked about putting together a collection of the Oakley Island novels, we decided to write a new novella to go along with it.

Enter Izzy and Her Off-Limits Love!

It was so much fun to co-write again with Jenny. As critique partners, we’ve been working together for a few years now, including the Appies series, which we alternate writing books. But as for actually co-writing, this was the first time since we published Sadie and the Bad Boy Billionaire. We actually wrote most of that final book in the trilogy while in Florida together in December 2023. We rented a condo, wrote together there and also in an apt location: a pirate bar right on the water.

For this novella, we decided to write a second gen story. What is a second gen story? I’m glad you asked!

A second gen story is a spin-off of sorts, following characters who were younger or even were children of the main series or book. Second gen stories often require some fudging or forgetting about time passage (maybe we’d be in flying cars by the time Izzy and Liam are in their twenties…) but they’re a way to hold onto the nostalgia of the original books while also bringing something fresh.
