Whether you’re actually doing your summer reading at the beach or not, these seven low spice beach reads will set the tone. Somehow, this summer I haven’t been to the beach a single time–this might be a first for me, honestly. So, I’m definitely living vicariously through my beach reads this year!
These books are all low spice–aka clean reads or closed door romances that feature just kissing and mild to no language.
That does NOT mean they’re missing any chemistry or great characters. These books bring it all … at least outside of the spicy scenes. Great stories, characters you’ll cheer for, and the beach read vibe perfect for summer reading–whether you end up at the beach or not.

TEN LOW SPICE BEACH READS
The Summer of Yes by Courtney Walsh
I mean, if the cover alone doesn’t scream SUMMER to you, the story includes two women who forge an unlikely friendship and dive into a summer of adventure and friendship.
If All Else Sails by Emma St. Clair
My first book with Thomas Nelson starts at a river house on the Northern Neck of Virginia, then follows the Intracoastal Waterway along the coast down to Georgia as a grumpy hockey player and a school nurse set sail together. Water and witty banter all around!
This enemies to lovers marriage of convenience book is full of witty banter and chemistry that will steam off the page. Gracie Ruth Mitchell has lovely, lovely prose. This book is part of a whole series of summer reads on the same island–so pick up more reads and stay awhile!
This is a slow burn marriage of convenience–and it can’t be more beachy when it involves a surfer! This is the start of a series in L.A. and if the cute cover doesn’t scream summer, I don’t know what does!
Eloise and the Grump Next Door by Emma St. Clair and Jenny Proctor
This is the start of a three book (and one novella) series following three sisters who inherit their grandmother’s beach house off the coast of Georgia. One by one, they all end up back on the island, but this book follows Eloise, who ends up falling for her new next-door neighbor–the grumpy lawyer handling her grandmother’s estate.
It doesn’t get much beachier than two surfers falling for one another. Set in California, this brother’s best friend book will immerse you in the island setting.
What Not to Do on Vacation by Rachel Magee
A modern retelling of Taming of the Shrew, What Not to Do on Vacation follows three sisters on vacation together reliving their childhood while trying to reconnect to each other.
While I found out the hard way that reading AT the beach can absolutely destroy your paperbacks, I still feel like summer and beach reads go together!
